The Price – Crimson’s Creative Challenge #161

This is my response to Crimson’s Creative Challenge

The CCC challenge is open for everyone and asks for creative responses like flash-fic stories, poems, pictures, captions, and, and, and… check it out!

The Price

She looks at the sky and sees in her mind’s eye the field as it once was: wide and open and green, fresh and unsullied as if it was new to the world.

Today the sky is dark, a dense fog is covering the field like a shroud. The only lights visible are the blue sparks of life-force leaving the dying bodies and disappearing in the mist.

Battling the forces of chaos was fierce and cost countless lives. Fighting with honor automatically puts you at a disadvantage when your opponent is ruthless and sly. She knows, she’s lost most of her unit on this field. But valor prevailed and the triumph is complete. It will be remembered in many a song.

From where she lies a break in the mist uncovers the sky: deep blue like the spark that now leaves her body. The sky turns to purple. Then black.

T’is the season when I rewatch the Tolkien movies, as I do almost every year. I love them. The battle scenes always leave me impressed and moved. That’s why I felt like writing something a bit different this week. 🙂
