Butterflies
I don’t feel all that old, I really don’t, but I’m aware that my number of years grows like a stack of pancakes. My brain now digs out things I thought I’d forgotten, or wanted to forget.
A few days ago, I remembered something Grandma told me when I was a kid and had asked her where we go when we die.
“We’re like larvae,” she said. “When our spirits are ready, our bodies die and the spirits emerge like butterflies from their pupae. They then roam free across the universe.”
That wouldn’t be so bad, right? I’d like that.

If only this was true. Then again who knows?

Thank you Sandra. I’d chose that path–if I had a choice.

Years grow ‘like a stack of pancakes’. That’s a great image. I also like the notion of the spirit being ‘ready’ before the body dies. Sounds lovely – comforting – a beautiful way to help a child come to terms with death. Love the tone of this – especially the last line. Great.

What a wonderful comment, Margaret, thank you so much. I’m quite certain that this is part of an afterlife myth somewhere.

Wonderful. Certainly better than many other options I read about. Nicely done.

We only have today & now.
Who knows what happens later?
Your grandmother really said that?
Mine said we have rebirth as per our Karma.

Thank you Anita. No, my Grandmother didn’t say that, that’s entirely made up. 🙂
