The Mess

“All done, Emma would be proud,” Mr. Cratchett wiped his forehead. He had raked the leaves, stacked the firewood, removed piles of twigs, and made everything neat and tidy.

Mirror – Weekend Writing Prompt #235

My entry for this week’s Sammi Cox’s Weekend Writing Prompt.

Mirror

I don’t look into mirrors any more, I know what I’ll see.

People who see me in bright daylight run away screaming and hide their children.

No matter. I can work in the dark. I’ll get you all.

“Whenever you hurt someone, kill human or beast, magical or otherwise, whenever you do something monstrous, the monster in you shall show on the outside.”

That was the curse that thrice-damned witch laid on me when I caught her.

Should have killed her right away–

but her screams were so high and her blood was so sweet.

“Uncle Zip, tell us a story! Pleeease!”

“Allright, allright. Listen!

“Once upon a time, a young fellow named Swift went on a journey. He wanted to see the world, travelled far and wide but was always unhappy because everybody hated him.

“That changed when he met Flippa, his true love. They married, had many children and instated our empire. Do you know which empire that is?”

“The empire of fleas!”

I had a story in mind for #155 but just didn’t get around to writing and posting it at the time. So why not combine them, I thought. I have seen Dale do it, so there… 😉

Vellichor – Weekend Writing Prompt #233

wk 233 vellichor

My entry for this week’s Sammi Cox’s Weekend Writing Prompt.

Vellichor

“Remember Vellichor,” he says and kisses me goodbye. He’s always been mysterious.

Three weeks without a word turn worry into panic. I have to do something.

I rush to the library where we first met.

“Vellichor,” I whisper.

I stare at the scintillating doorway appearing out of nowhere.
